Poetic School Research Proposal

April26

Your comments and posts about each other’s poems are fantastic, especially when you ask questions about your classmate’s ideas. When writing a reply, informal comments are fine as long as you are working to build understanding. Well-done!

For today, you should finalize your Poetic School Research Proposal and identify the two poems you want to compare. Your proposal should be unique and not resemble your friend’s proposal.

1. Submit your proposal online by typing your proposal into a word document and then posting in the comments section.
2. Copy and paste your poems into a word document. Enlarge the text to 12pt font and double space.
3. Print your two poems
4. Begin to annotate your poems. First define any unfamiliar words. Research any of the allulsions included in your poem. Look for figures of speech, important words (diction), style, form, tone, and figures of speech.

    Proposal for poetry school research
    School movement: Concrete poetry
Two poets: E.E. Cummings, Ezra Pound
Poems to compare: I carry your heart with me, the river-merchants wife: a letter
Interest and reasons for choosing these poems: I chose the first poem because it talks about love, not just any kind of love, but strong love. The second poem also talks about love in a way, but a different type of love not the one that is described in the first poem. The second type of love was like forced, not came deep from the heart.

    Romanticism

    Poets-
    Edgar Allan Poe
    William Blake

    Title-
    To My Mother
    Love’s Secret

    My interest in these poems:
My interest in the poem “To My Mother” was when he says “Can find, among their burning terms of love,” that shows the emotion and love he has for his mother who has passed “early” as he says. He explains that he sets his mother free out in Virginia. This poem is read as sentimental because he is using closure to his mother who is no longer with him and sent this poem with her to heaven.

My interest in the poem “Love Secrets” is the hidden message behind the obvious words. “Never seek to tell thy love” the way he speaks brings joy it evokes love and smiles . The author of the poem leaves the poem short but gives great detail. The details he leaves creates a thought in your mind like imagery.

    I choose –
    Theme
    Mood

    Selection-
    Point by Point

Reasons & Interest in for Poems:
The symbols used in these poems are extravagant and thought provoking. The genre of both poems may not be the same, but they both have similar aspects in other areas. “The Fountain of Blood” interests me because it has vivid, disturbing, imagery. “I have a Rendezvous with Death” interests me because of the clash between calm beautiful scenery, and death.
