About Ms. Synhorst

I received my BA from CSU Sacramento in 1998. In 2002, I received my teaching credential from CSUS. In 2004, I received a Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the same institution. I am involved in the Sacramento poetry and music scene, currently as a member of the Sacramento Poetry Center’s Board of Directors, and I would love to introduce Burbank students to those communities.
My masters thesis was a book of poetry, and I still try to write. Among my credits are:

Gepetto Says, Your One Phone Call, 2/2015

Hospice, Your One Phone Call, 1/2015

Calla, Your One Phone Call, 1/2015

Inside, The Queen of Silver Linings, Potential Energy, Daughter, Origami, and Micro, Medusa’s Kitchen, 6/2013

Pie, Sacramento News and Review,11/15/2012

Moats (SPC Poetry Contest 1st place winner)

Rainbow Room (SPC Poetry Contest 3rd place winner)
Iowa, Confluence, Prayer, and Beautiful (Convergence journal, 2011)
Circles (Found Poetry Review Fall 2011)
When Shit Wore Out (Ophidian Summer 2011)
Body of Water (Available in the CSUS library)
Orion’s Wife (Bazzanella literary award winner, 2004)
A Look Inward (Susuruss 1996)

I also worked as an editor on the Susurrus (SCC’s literary journal) and Calaveras Station (CSUS’s literary journal).

Personally, I have been married since the summer of 2005 (the same year I came to Burbank!), and I have a beautiful daughter named Azadeh who is in 2nd grade in the SCUSD school system. My son Lochlan is just a toddler. His main interests are trucks and cats. Besides writing, I love to bake, cook, and play bass guitar.

You and/or your parents and guardians are welcome to contact me at any time. I check email frequently.

To check your grades, attendance, and get assignment information, go to the students section of the SCUSD home page. You can sign in with your student ID number and birth date, just as you do on the school computers. I do try to update Infinite Campus regularly as well.
